Today we had a presentation on the winners of the print design element of the thinking and making project. Below I will answer the reflective questions

1. Look at the long list- reflect on the work and the feedback.

I think the girl's feedback was fair, and most of it quite obvious. The brief was to design for a nine year old girl. Everyone's work is really great, obviously, but I think the girl would have been happier if the lecturers had submitted different prints for her consideration. I feel many of the ones chosen are very "CSM" and not very "nine year old girl."

2. What do you think about your work now that you have heard the feedback from the patient and the staff?

I was really happy with the prints I produced for this project, and for once I had a little bit of confidence in what I was doing. Designing print for childrens clothes is one of my dreams so to know I wasn't on the long list even was a bit disappointing. It's not that I think I deserved more than anyone else, everyone is so talented, but I tried so hard and fit the brief pretty well. In the patient's feedback she even mentions how people could use her design, which I actually did. I turned her drawing of a troll into a print. I feel that she would have liked mine had she had the opportunity to look at it.

What do you think about the work selected?

It goes without saying that everyones work is great, and everyone is very talented. However they are not the selections I would have made. The ones selected are super mature, and very "CSM." I would wear them myself even. But I remember being a nine year old girl and I just want pink and sparkly and animals. Even as I grew into a tomboy phase, I'd lean toward cute characters and bright colours.

If it had been me who made the selection, I would have chosen Helen Ottarsdottir, Finn Lockwood, Lal Yilmaz, Yanhui Li, Yuura, Sude Kahraman, Ella davies, Zeynep, Mai Usami, Ariadna Mayal, Nina Hermans, Maria Janina or Jasmine Jiang.

I often feel like, and I know I'm not alone in thinking this, that many of the same people always get spoken about in the crits for projects, over and over, leaving other people without feedback for months. There are definitely familiar names in the long list, whereas some of the names I mentioned above I don't think I've ever heard before. I felt really sad when I wasn't mentioned in the crit for this project, especially because I produced around 15 or 20 different prints.
